Phases of petroleum industry
Phases of petroleum industry
There are two phases of petroleum industries.
1. Drilling.
2. Production.
1. Drilling :
Drilling is a cutting process that uses
a drill bit to cut a hole of circular
cross-section in solid materials.
The drill bit is usually a rotary cutting tool,
often multi-point. The bit is pressed
against the work-piece and rotated at
rates from hundreds to thousands of
revolutions per minute.
Drilling is becoming an increasingly
important tool for environmental protection
and remediation. Drilling is a relatively
noninvasive method for investigating
and removing chemical and radioactive
wastes from the subsurface, and for
placing barriers in the subsurface
to halt the spread of contamination.
2.Production:
Petroleum production engineering
is a subset of petroleum engineering.
Petroleum production engineers design
and select subsurface equipment to
produce oil and gas well fluids.
Petroleum is a fossil fuel, meaning
that it has been created by the
decomposition of organic matter over
millions of years. Petroleum is formed
when large quantities of dead
organisms–primarily zooplankton and
algae–underneath sedimentary rock are
subjected to intense heat and pressure.
Production is a process in which we produce
or transfer the crude oil from subsurface to
surface.
